A textile is any of various fibre-based materials, including fibres, yarns, filaments, threads, and different types of fabric. Originally, textiles were woven, but weaving is not the only manufacturing method, and many other methods were later developed to form textile structures based on their intended use. Knitting and non-woven are other popular types of fabric manufacturing. Textile is the material worked in sewing, quilting, embroidery and weaving, which makes it the fabric on which many of the sewing and fiber tools in this atlas operate.
