The father figure of British studio pottery. Trained in Japan, he founded the Leach Pottery at St Ives with Shoji Hamada in 1920 and spent a career carrying East Asian pottery ethics and technique to the West; his A Potter's Book of 1940 became the manual and manifesto of the studio potter.
