Tool group sorts tools by the broad kind of object each one is, separate from any single craft that uses it. Wikipedia defines a tool as an object that can "extend an individual's ability to modify features of the surrounding environment or help them accomplish a particular task," a definition that covers everything from a hand needle to a lathe. This grouping lets a visitor compare tools of a similar kind across different crafts.
