Potters Wheels and Throwing Aids

The wheel on which a potter shapes clay and the supports that go with it, such as the plaster bat on which a piece is thrown so it can be lifted off without being touched. A tool belongs here when its cited source describes it as the potters wheel or as used to make pottery on the wheel. It excludes the machines that prepare clay and the kilns that fire it. The wheel spins a lump of clay while the potter lifts the walls with the hands, and a bat keeps the thrown piece from distorting when it comes off the wheel head.
