Woodworking Knives and Blades

Edged cutting and chopping tools whose blade is drawn, swung or pushed by hand rather than driven by a mallet or struck the way a chisel is, covering both the many styles of axe used to fell, hew or split wood and the many styles of fixed and folding knife used to carve, trim or cut it. This includes general and felling axes, hatchets and the broadaxe used to hew square timber from a round log, splitting tools such as the splitting maul and cleaving axe, forestry blades such as the billhook and bark hack, and knives ranging from a general purpose or traditional fixed blade knife through pocket and survival knives. A carving knife whose primary woodworking role is shaping rather than general cutting, such as the crooked knife, is grouped instead under woodworking chisels and carving tools.
