Loom Parts and Attachments

Parts and attachments that fit into or onto a loom to do one job in weaving, such as the heddle that lifts a warp thread, the temple that holds cloth to width, the flying shuttle that throws the weft and the Jacquard machine that selects threads for a pattern. A tool belongs here when its cited source describes it as a part of or device fitted to a loom. It excludes whole looms, which sit in the looms group. Several of these parts were patented in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and drove the mechanisation of cloth making.
