Set Tool

A set tool is a blacksmithing tool meant to be struck by a hammer, either a hand sledge or a power hammer, rather than gripped and swung itself; the name covers a family of struck tools used to texture, shape or move hot metal on the anvil. Set tools are fitted with a handle so the smith can hold and position the tool safely with one hand while it is struck with the other, and the handle's construction differs depending on whether the tool is meant for hand-hammer work at the anvil or for use under a power hammer.
