Bench Grinder

A bench grinder is a benchtop grinding machine that drives a pair of abrasive wheels; a pedestal grinder is a similar or larger machine mounted on its own floor-standing pedestal, bolted down or set on rubber feet. Depending on the wheels fitted, bench grinders are used to hand-sharpen cutting tools such as tool bits, drill bits, chisels and gouges, or to rough-shape metal before welding or assembly, and a wire brush wheel or buffing wheel can be swapped in for cleaning, polishing or deburring work. Bench grinders are standard equipment in metal fabrication and machine shops, alongside handheld grinders such as angle grinders and die grinders, while in a woodworking shop a bench grinder's main use is sharpening tools.
