The World Draughts Federation, known by its French initials FMJD, is the international governing body for draughts, founded in 1947 by France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. It now unites more than seventy member federations and oversees the sport's various disciplines, including international draughts on 100 square boards and the Russian and Brazilian 64 square variants as well as checkers, hosting world championships in each. The federation belongs to the Global Association of International Sports Federations and has pursued Olympic recognition as part of a broader effort to bring mind sports into mainstream athletics.
