World Post Day is an annual international observance held on October 9, the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union in 1874. It was first declared at the Universal Postal Union's 1969 Congress in Tokyo, Japan. Postal services in many countries mark the day with events such as stamp exhibitions, giving it a point of contact with the stamp and coin collecting hobby practiced at home.
