A knotting hobby using flat plastic lanyard thread or hollow PVC tubing to braid keychains, bracelets and other small trinkets, using knotting techniques the craft shares with older traditions such as macrame and bast-fiber cordwork. It began as a fad in France in the late 1950s, named after the 1958 Sacha Distel song "Scoubidou," and has returned to popularity in several later waves, including the 1980s and again in the mid-2000s, largely among children and young hobbyists.
