Building physical models that are geometrically similar to, but usually smaller than, a real prototype such as a vehicle, aircraft, ship or building, constructed from plastic, wood or metal and typically finished with enamel, lacquer or acrylic paint. Beyond its use as a tool in engineering design, filmmaking and military strategy, model building is pursued as a hobby for its own sake, covering railroad trains, cars, trucks, military vehicles, aircraft, spacecraft and science fiction subjects.
