Woodworking Striking Tools

Hammers, mallets and mauls used to deliver a blow, along with the bars and pullers used together with them to pry, wreck or draw a fastener, a use closely tied to striking in ordinary carpentry work. This includes the claw hammer, framing hammer, dead blow hammer, mallet and the specialty veneer, upholstery and Warrington hammers, the gavel and the wedge that is driven and split by a blow, and prying and pulling tools such as the crowbar, cat's paw nail puller, the staple knocker and the multipurpose Halligan bar. A tool that is itself struck to cut or shape wood, such as a chisel or froe, is grouped instead under its own function.
