A veneer hammer is a woodworking tool used in applying veneer, pressing a thin sheet of decorative wood down flat and squeezing out excess glue and trapped air from beneath it as the hammer is worked across the surface. Despite its name it is not used to strike the work the way an ordinary hammer is; its broad head is drawn across the veneer under pressure rather than swung.
