Frame Saw

Woodworking Tools

A frame saw, also called a sash saw, is a saw with a narrow, flexible blade held under tension inside a rectangular frame, traditionally made of wood and also called a sash or a gate. The blade sits perpendicular to the frame so the material being cut passes through the frame's open center; frame saws built for wood are rip saws worked either by hand or, in a sawmill, by machine power, while frame saws built for cutting stone were powered saws used in stone mills.
