Circular Saw

A circular saw, also called a buzz saw, is a power saw that uses a toothed or abrasive disc or blade turning on an arbor to cut material by rotary motion; the term is also used loosely for the blade itself, and should be distinguished from the similarly rotary hole saw and ring saw. Invented in the late eighteenth century, it was in common use in American sawmills by the mid-nineteenth. It can work wood, masonry, plastic or metal, and may be handheld or mounted to a machine; in woodworking the word usually means the handheld version specifically, with the table saw and the chop saw naming other common configurations. Skilsaw and Skil saw have become generic trademarks for the ordinary handheld circular saw in the United States. Blades are made for the material and cut intended, with separate wood blades for rip cuts, cross cuts or combination cuts, and most saws run on electricity, though gasoline engines and hydraulic motors are also used, the latter letting the saw run off heavy equipment without its own separate power source.
