Banjo (Wood Lathe)

In the craft of woodturning, a banjo is a fixture mounted on the bed of a wood lathe that holds the toolrest, the bar a turner rests and guides the cutting tool against as it is worked into the spinning wood. Its position can be adjusted along the lathe's bed and locked in place, most commonly by a lever at the fixture's forward end that acts on an eccentric shaft with an attached clamp, letting the turner reposition the toolrest wherever is most convenient for removing material from the workpiece as its shape develops.
