A scratch stock is a woodworking tool used to cut decorative treatments, such as beading, into furniture and other wooden pieces. It consists of a wood or metal handle fitted with a clamp that holds a steel blade filed to the profile of the shape to be cut, and it works by a scraping action, drawn repeatedly along the wood to gradually cut away fibers until the desired profile has formed; it performs best in dense-grained wood.
