Sanding Block

A sanding block is a flat or shaped block used to hold sandpaper steady during hand sanding. In its simplest form it is just a block of wood or cork with one smooth, flat face; the user wraps sandpaper around the block and holds it in place either by hand or with a built-in clip, tooth or clamp mechanism, and slipping a piece of cardboard under the sandpaper can soften the block's impact on the work and reduce tearing or uneven wear of the paper, though it also makes the block itself less perfectly flat over time.
