A router plane is a hand plane used in woodworking for smoothing out sunken panels and, more generally, any depression below the general surface of a piece of lumber. It planes the bottom of a recess to a uniform depth and can work into corners that would otherwise only be reachable with a chisel; hand tool woodworkers use the router plane, while power tool woodworkers often use the electric router for similar work.
