A needlecase, or needle case, is a small, often decorative holder for sewing needles. Early needlecases were usually small tubular containers of bone, wood or bronze with a tight-fitting stopper, often made to hang from a belt, and a needlecase is often one of the tools attached to a chatelaine or included as a component of an etui. A pin poppet is a similar container built for pins rather than needles, common in the eighteenth century, and bodkin cases were made in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries to hold larger, thicker bodkin needles.
