Scrabble

Scrabble is a word game, created in 1931 by American architect Alfred Mosher Butts, in which two to four players score points by placing lettered tiles onto a fifteen by fifteen grid to form words, reading across or down in the manner of a crossword, that are found in a standard dictionary; the Sport atlas already carries Scrabble as a competitive game entity, and this hobby entity records the same game as a domestic pastime. Hasbro manufactures the game in the United States and Canada through its Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers subsidiaries, while Mattel holds the rights everywhere else, and by 2008 Scrabble was sold in 121 countries in more than thirty languages, with roughly 150 million sets sold worldwide, found in about one third of American homes and half of British homes; an estimated four thousand clubs around the world organise competitive play.
