Janggi

Janggi, sometimes called Korean chess, is a strategy board game popular on the Korean Peninsula. It was derived from xiangqi, or Chinese chess, and closely resembles it, sharing the starting position of some pieces and a board nine lines wide by ten lines long, though janggi's board lacks the river dividing xiangqi's board across the middle. The game can move quickly because of its jumping cannons and long range elephants, but professional games most often run past 150 moves and so tend to play out more slowly than a game of Western chess. The first world janggi tournament was held in Harbin, China, in 2009.
