The practice of walking, running or balancing along a length of flat webbing suspended and tensioned between two anchors, distinguished from tightrope and tightwire walking chiefly by its material and its much lower tension. Where a tightrope or tightwire is drawn taut into a rigid, stationary line, a slackline is tensioned far more loosely, so the webbing stretches and bounces underfoot like a long, narrow trampoline; that give lets a slackliner use arm movements to recover balance as their center of mass shifts, a dynamic quality that sets the practice apart from traditional wire walking.
