A juggling and circus prop consisting of an axle and two cups or discs shaped like an hourglass or egg timer, derived from the Chinese yo-yo and spun using a string attached to two handsticks. Diabolo players perform a large variety of tricks, including tosses and interactions with the sticks, string and their own bodies, and can spin multiple diabolos on a single string, the prop maintaining its spin through the same conservation of angular momentum that keeps a Western yo-yo spinning.
