Pen Spinning

A form of object manipulation involving the deft spinning and passing of a pen or other writing instrument around and between the fingers, often practiced simply as idle self-entertainment in a classroom or office though multinational competitions also exist. The hobby originated in Japan before the Second World War and has been popular worldwide since at least the 1970s, spreading further through online communities that share tricks and terminology; drummers commonly practice a similar manipulation with drumsticks. Beginners typically learn four foundational tricks, called ThumbAround Normal, Sonic Normal, Charge Normal and FingerPass Normal, before progressing to any of the hundreds of more advanced spins, arounds and power tricks that experienced pen spinners chain together into longer sequences called combos or hybrids.
