Knife Juggling

Knife juggling is a variant of toss juggling that uses blunt knives as props, thrown and caught rather than struck or balanced. Although knives are occasionally juggled purely for recreation, the activity is generally practiced as a performance art, most often seen from street entertainers as part of a routine, or at art and historical festivals. Knives are thrown with a vertical spin that keeps them stable in the air and are typically allowed to rotate once or twice before being caught; the activity can be performed with any number of knives, but most performers use three. Because knives are more unwieldy, heavier, and more dangerous to catch than props such as juggling clubs, the patterns used are usually simple, consisting of a basic cascade and occasionally a simple trick such as an under-the-leg throw.
