Amateur Theatre

Amateur Theatre, also known as amateur dramatics, is theatre performed by amateur actors and singers rather than paid professionals. Amateur groups may stage plays, revues, musicals, light opera, pantomime or variety shows, doing so for social activity and artistic merit, with productions taking place in venues ranging from outdoor spaces to community centers, schools and professional theatres. A key distinction from professional theatre is that performers are usually not paid, and amateur actors typically do not hold membership in the actors' unions that represent professional performers.
