A winding machine, or winder, is a device that wraps thread, yarn, cord, wire or similar flexible material onto a spool, bobbin or reel. In textile production a winding machine takes yarn from a spinning bobbin or a hank and rewinds it onto a package suited to the next stage of processing, such as warping or weaving, and similar winding machinery is used more broadly wherever a length of thread, cord or wire needs to be wound evenly for storage or further use.
