The Renwick Gallery is a branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., displaying American craft and decorative arts from the nineteenth through twenty first centuries. The building, designed by James Renwick Jr. in the Second Empire style, opened in 1874 as the Corcoran Gallery of Art and became the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery in 1972 after a period as a federal courthouse. Following a renovation completed in 2015, it reopened with contemporary craft installations alongside its historical holdings.
