A band clamp is a generic term for a holding device consisting of a strap of metal or cloth formed into a loop, with a mechanism that forcibly adjusts the loop's diameter to squeeze an object placed within it. One type, the web clamp, uses a band of nylon-type cloth webbing that can slip and stretch around irregularly shaped objects such as picture frames, packages or trailer loads. Clamping pressure is applied either mechanically, through a screw or ratchet that tightens the band, or through the elastic nature of the band material itself.
