Metalworking Striking Tools

Hammers and mallets used by hand to deliver a blow in ordinary metalworking, distinct from the larger dedicated forging hammers grouped under metalworking forging tools. This includes the general purpose hammer, the two headed ball peen or machinist's hammer used for both striking and peening metal, the heavy sledgehammer, the soft faced hammer built to avoid marring a finished surface, and the slide hammer that transmits an impact force through a sliding weight rather than by striking the workpiece directly.
