Snarling Iron

A snarling iron is a metalworker's tool used to drive, or raise, the walls of a hollow metal vessel such as a teapot from the inside. One historical description compares the craftsman who uses it, called a snarler, to the leaf bumper who raises leaf decoration in other metalwork. Examples of snarling irons have been found in different historical contexts, including at Chanhudaro in the Indus Valley Civilization.
