Drift Pin

In metalworking, a drift pin, also called a drift or drift punch, is a tool used to localize the force of a hammer blow. Being smaller in diameter than the hammer's face, it concentrates the blow onto a small area, or protects a surrounding surface from the impact; unlike a true punch, a drift pin is never meant to be struck directly on its own tip, and it is typically made from wood, a light alloy, copper or steel, cut to size as the job requires.
