A torque screwdriver is a screwdriver built with a torque-limiting clutch that disengages once a fastener reaches a preset tightening force, so it is neither left too loose nor driven in too hard. It is used in mechanical production, manufacturing, and maintenance work as part of quality control, covering torque ranges from about 0.04 to more than 27 newton-meters. The tool addresses a real hazard on both ends: a loose fastener can come apart in use, while an overtightened one can strip threads or crack the part it holds.
