A podger spanner, or podger, is a tool in the form of a short bar, usually tapered along its length and often incorporating a wrench at one end. Podgers are used in erecting scaffolding and steel scenery: the pointed, tapered end is used to align bolt holes in the structure being assembled, while the wrench end is then used to tighten the nuts once the holes line up.
