A die grinder or rotary tool is a handheld power tool and multitool used for grinding, sanding, honing, polishing or light machining of material, typically metal but also plastic or wood. Die grinders and rotary tools are conceptually similar with no sharp dividing line between them, though the name die grinder tends to describe pneumatically driven heavy-duty versions and the name rotary tool tends to describe lighter-duty electric versions; flexible-shaft-drive versions also exist.
