Society for Creative Anachronism

The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international living history group dedicated to studying and recreating mainly medieval European cultures from before the seventeenth century. It began on May 1, 1966, in Berkeley, California, out of a backyard party organized by writer Diana Paxson. Members take part in armored combat, fencing, archery, equestrian pursuits, feasting, medieval dance and other recreated arts and sciences, organized into kingdoms with their own governance and ceremonial rulers chosen through tournament combat; as of 2020 it counted more than 20,000 paid members and about 60,000 total participants worldwide.
