The American Numismatic Association is a membership driven nonprofit devoted to advancing the study of coins and numismatics through educational, historical and scientific pursuits. It was founded in 1891 in Chicago by George Francis Heath and received a federal charter from Congress in 1912. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado since 1967, it maintains one of the largest circulating numismatic libraries in the world, operates a money museum holding more than 250,000 objects, publishes the monthly journal The Numismatist, and hosts annual conventions with roughly 24,000 individual members.
