Parkour

Combat and Contact Novelty Sport Hobbies

A self-led movement practice in which practitioners use only their own bodies to interact with obstacles in an environment, incorporating running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping and rolling, with roots in military obstacle course training and martial arts. Practiced alone or with others, usually in urban settings, parkour asks its practitioners to see their surroundings in a new way and to envision moving around, across, through, over and under its features. Related movement traditions existed for centuries in communities across Africa and China, but the modern discipline and its name were established by David Belle and the Yamakasi group in the 1990s, with acrobatic flips, once considered a separate discipline called freerunning, now broadly accepted as part of parkour itself.
