Reversi is an abstract strategy board game for two players, invented in 1883 and played on an eight by eight uncheckered board with sixty four identical disks, each dark on one side and light on the other; the Sport atlas already carries Reversi as a competitive game entity, and this hobby entity records the same game as a domestic pastime. Players take turns placing one disk at a time on an empty square, and after each play, any of the opponent's disks caught in a straight line between the disk just placed and another disk already belonging to the player are flipped over to that player's own colour, with the game ending, and the player with the most disks of their colour winning, once no legal moves remain; Othello, patented in 1971, is a variant played with a fixed starting arrangement of the four central disks.
