Paragliding is the recreational and competitive adventure sport of flying paragliders: lightweight, free flying, foot launched glider aircraft with no rigid primary structure, whose wing shape is held by suspension lines, air entering vents at the front and the aerodynamic pressure of flight itself, rather than by any frame. The pilot sits in a harness or a pod like seat slung beneath the wing, and while a typical flight lasts one to five hours and covers tens of kilometres, a skilled pilot who finds and works rising air currents can climb several thousand metres and stay aloft for many hours, flying cross country for hundreds of kilometres in a single outing.
