BASE Jumping

BASE jumping is the activity of jumping from a fixed object and using a parachute to descend to the ground; the acronym BASE stands for the four categories of object jumped from, buildings, antennas such as radio masts, spans such as bridges, and earth such as cliffs. A jumper leaps from the fixed object and deploys a parachute after an optional period of freefall, and wingsuit BASE jumping is a popular variant of the activity. BASE jumping differs from skydiving in that jumpers work from much lower altitudes and carry only a single parachute, which makes it significantly more hazardous than other forms of parachuting and puts it among the most dangerous of the extreme sports.
