Backyard Wrestling

Untrained enthusiasts performing professional-wrestling-style moves in informal, low-budget settings, most often an actual backyard, learning holds and stunts by imitating televised wrestling or online guides rather than through any formal training. Participants often organize themselves into informal promotions that mimic real wrestling companies, staging and recording their own shows; the hobby peaked in visibility during the 1990s and early 2000s alongside the rise of extreme stunts in mainstream professional wrestling, and professional wrestling organizations themselves generally discourage the practice on safety grounds.
