Hiram Percy Maxim

Amateur Radio Figures

Inventor and organizer who gave amateur radio its institution. In 1914, with Clarence Tuska, he founded the American Radio Relay League to pass messages by organized relay across the continent, and his advocacy preserved amateur access to the airwaves when regulation could have ended the hobby.
