A knitting technique that produces a basket-woven appearance from interconnected squares (or diamonds) knitted at alternating diagonal orientations, using only knit, purl and simple decreases, with each new tier of squares picked up along the edges of the tier below it. Entrelac can be worked flat or, with a change of direction after each tier, in the round, and while it is most often worked in a single color, it readily accepts color changes, with variegated yarn producing distinct blocks of color across the interlocked squares.
