Notaphily

Notaphily is the study and collection of paper currency and banknotes, the paper-money counterpart to coin collecting, with a notaphilist being a collector of banknotes or paper money, particularly as a hobby. Collectors pursue banknotes for reasons that parallel coin collecting: rarity, historical association, printing errors, replacement notes, and the artwork and security features that different national issuing authorities put on their currency. The hobby is distinct from simply tracking or spending circulating currency, since a notaphilist deliberately acquires and keeps notes, often withdrawn or superseded issues, as a collection rather than as spending money.
