Fiestaware Collecting

Fiestaware Collecting is the pursuit of gathering Fiesta, the Art Deco glazed ceramic dinnerware known for its bold solid colors, introduced by the Homer Laughlin China Company of Newell, West Virginia (renamed Fiesta Tableware Company in 2020) and unveiled in January 1936 at the Pottery and Glass Exhibit in Pittsburgh. Its original shapes and glazes were designed by Homer Laughlin's art director Frederick Hurten Rhead. It was the first widely mass-promoted solid-color dinnerware line in the United States, and the New York Times called it, in 2002, the most collected brand of china in the country. Production of the original line ceased in 1973, but renewed interest during the 1970s Art Deco revival turned collecting it into a major hobby, and vintage pieces that once sold for pennies now command anywhere from the hundreds to the thousands of dollars.
