Collecting

Collecting is the hobby of seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing and maintaining items that interest an individual collector. Collections vary enormously in their objects, purposes and presentation, with practically unlimited possible subjects. Manufactured collectibles may be classed as antiques once they are at least a hundred years old, or simply as newer collectables, while the term vintage describes older pieces that have not yet reached antique status. Some people begin collecting in childhood and carry the pursuit into a lifelong hobby, while others take it up as adults, and early collectors often adjust what and how they collect as they mature: some novices buy whatever appeals to them first and learn technique afterward, while others build background knowledge before they start buying. The internet has let previously isolated collectors find and connect with fellow enthusiasts around the world.
