A blunger is a machine commonly used in the pottery industry to mix slip, a fluid mixture of clay and water. It usually consists of a round or octagonal tank fitted with a mixer; clay added to the water-filled tank is stirred into a slurry, and a deflocculant is added to neutralize the electrical charge on the clay particles, which helps keep them in suspension so the resulting slip can then be sieved as it is drawn off.
